Former Marlins Reliever Joins Boston Rotation

Barnes Adds Depth to Bullpen

The Boston Red Sox have signed free agent reliever Matt Barnes to a two-year contract, the team announced Sunday. Barnes, 32, is expected to add depth to the Red Sox bullpen, which has struggled in recent years. The signing comes after the Red Sox non-tendered Barnes in December.

Barnes has a career 3.69 ERA in 461 appearances with the Red Sox, Marlins, and Blue Jays. He has 548 strikeouts in 433.1 innings pitched.

"Matt is a proven reliever with a track record of success," said Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom. "He's a welcome addition to our bullpen and we're excited to have him in Boston."
